Sofía Vergara has not said a word about Joe Manganiello’s new memoir. She has, however, let an Instagram Story do the talking. According to TMZ, the Modern Family star reshared a graphic from her son Manolo comparing a “good man” to a “narcissistic man” on or around October 8 to 9, 2026, adding nothing but a clapping hands emoji. The timing is hard to miss: Manganiello’s book, Bloodlines, had just started making headlines with some very personal claims about their marriage.
What Manganiello’s memoir says
Bloodlines, published by Avid Reader Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, hits shelves on October 13, 2026, per The Hollywood Reporter. People ran an exclusive excerpt on or around October 7 to 8, and The Hollywood Reporter published its own excerpt on October 8.
Much of the book, according to People, deals with a serious health crisis. Manganiello writes that he battled a mysterious autoimmune disease for seven years, beginning shortly after he married Vergara in 2015. He says he lost 60 pounds and had part of his intestines removed in an emergency surgery in 2016.
“For seven years I thought I was going to be dead the next week,” he told People. “The world has opened back up to me.”
It is within that story that the marriage claims land. Per People and TMZ, Manganiello writes that his marriage to Vergara had “become devoid of any emotionality whatsoever,” and that she refused to hug him even when he begged. TMZ also reports he claims Vergara ridiculed him when he adopted his dog Bubbles in 2019.
That dog, by his account, mattered enormously. In the People excerpt, Manganiello describes being in a dark enough place that he had suicidal thoughts. “I had to give my gun away because I kept thinking about it, and then the dog came,” he writes. “I went from being the patient to the caretaker.”
The Hollywood Reporter’s excerpt covers the health crisis as well, along with the role Ben Affleck’s Batman offer played in his recovery.
Why he says he wrote it
Manganiello is clear that he did not set out to write a divorce tell-all. He told People that writing about the split was “not the point of the book.” His stated motivation is about correcting the record more broadly.
“There were things said and printed about me that were false,” he told the magazine. He added: “I tell the truth in the book, even when it’s super painful.”
Manganiello, 49, is now engaged to Caitlin O’Connor, whom People reports he met after the divorce in 2023.
Vergara’s very loud silence
Now back to that Instagram Story. Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, 35, originally posted the graphic contrasting “good man” and “narcissistic man” traits, per Us Weekly, and he attached a caption that did not exactly whisper.
“Remember kids, when dealing with a narcissist, it doesn’t matter how much you do for them, because they will resent you for it and nothing will never be enough, and they’ll always somehow try to paint you as the bad guy,” Manolo wrote, according to Us Weekly, E! News and TMZ.
His mother reshared it, TMZ reports, with a clapping hands emoji. That was it. No caption, no name, no tag. Just applause.
She was not done, either. E! News, citing Page Six, reports that Vergara also reposted a separate message about self-awareness around the same time, one originally shared by Tom Brady. Of all the people to borrow a thought from.
Neither post mentions Manganiello or the book. Neither needs to. And for anyone wondering whether an official response is coming, the answer so far is no: neither Vergara, 54, nor her representatives have issued a formal statement about the memoir or the posts.
The backstory
Vergara and Manganiello married on November 17, 2015, after dating for less than a year, per Hollywood Life. They separated in July 2023 and finalized their divorce in 2024, citing irreconcilable differences.
For a long time, Vergara’s version of events was the only one on the record, and it was fairly tidy. She told Spanish newspaper El País that the marriage ended because “my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids, and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” according to Hollywood Life.
Bloodlines paints a messier picture, one in which illness, isolation and a rescue dog named Bubbles figure heavily. Whether Vergara ever addresses it directly is anyone’s guess. For now, she appears content to let a graphic, an emoji and a Tom Brady quote carry the message.
The book arrives October 13. Expect the Instagram Stories to keep coming.
