Jack Antonoff isn’t cutting the love songs. In his first interview about his split from Margaret Qualley, the Bleachers frontman said he thought hard about changing his setlist and decided to keep the Qualley-inspired songs, calling the experience of performing them now “really beautiful,” according to Just Jared. For a guy who has built a career on emotional honesty, the answer fits.
What Jack said
Antonoff, 42, opened up in a profile published by The Guardian on Sunday, October 25, 2026. Just Jared reported that it was his first time addressing the breakup in an interview, though he had previously made a brief joke about it at a concert when a fan requested “Let’s Get Married.” He was in the middle of the Bleachers Forever World Tour, which meant singing songs he wrote about his relationship night after night, in front of thousands of people, after the relationship had ended.
He didn’t take the decision lightly. E! News reported that Antonoff considered reworking the setlist after the split but ultimately kept the love songs in the show.
“Songs which I wrote recently, I obviously was really worried about this specific thing, I sat long and hard with it and thought: ‘If I change the setlist…’ and in my gut there was a unanimous jury that said, ‘No, this is the deal,'” he told The Guardian, as reported by E! News.
A unanimous jury in his gut. Every overthinker knows that feeling.
He then explained what “the deal” means to him. “The deal I’ve made with my audience is that I’m going to tell you honestly how I feel and I’m going to risk at any moment having to stand behind it for f**king ever,” Antonoff said, per Just Jared’s report on the Guardian interview.
So he isn’t pretending the songs are about someone else, and he isn’t hiding them. “I don’t rewrite the past, I have no shame about the things I’ve said,” he added, according to Just Jared.
He also didn’t pretend it’s easy. “Anyone could relate to the terrible sadness and pain, but there’s a great power to it also. It’s actually been really beautiful,” he said, as reported by E! News.
Sadness and power at the same time. That’s about as Bleachers as a sentence can get.
How we got here
People reported that Antonoff and Qualley separated in July 2026 after nearly three years of marriage. That puts the Guardian interview roughly three months after the news broke.
Their romance had been a fan favorite. The two started dating in summer 2021 and went public in March 2022 at the AFI Awards Luncheon. They got engaged that spring, and Qualley was spotted wearing a diamond ring at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2022.
According to Page Six, along with multiple other reports, they married on August 19, 2023, on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. The Jersey Shore wedding was a star-studded affair, and Taylor Swift was among the guests. A New Jersey kid getting married on the Jersey Shore with his famous friends in the crowd? You couldn’t write a more on-brand wedding for him.
Qualley, 32, is an actress known for her roles in Maid and Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood, as E! News noted. Antonoff, per Just Jared, fronts Bleachers. He has also become one of the most in-demand producers in pop, which made the couple a regular presence at awards shows and premieres.
Shutting down the rumors
When the split went public, speculation followed quickly. Qualley’s camp addressed it directly.
A rep for Qualley confirmed the breakup to E! News in July 2026 and pushed back on the gossip. “The narratives running in the press about Margaret and Jack are categorically untrue,” the representative said.
The rep went further: “There are no trust issues. There was no infidelity or anything outside of respect and partnership in this relationship.” The statement also said the two still care deeply for each other.
That’s a pretty clear line in the sand. No cheating, no drama, just two people going separate ways.
As for what did lead to the split, People reportedly heard from an unnamed insider on July 14, 2026. According to that source, Qualley’s warm, upbeat personality clashed with Antonoff’s more serious demeanor, and the two simply didn’t make the best match over the long haul. Neither Antonoff nor Qualley has confirmed that account.
What’s next
For now, Antonoff’s message is simple: the songs stay. He is still on the road with the Bleachers Forever World Tour, and fans who show up can expect to hear the love songs he wrote during the marriage, sung by a man who says he has no intention of disowning them.
Qualley hasn’t publicly commented on Antonoff’s Guardian interview. Her rep’s July statement is the most detailed thing her side has said on the record.
There’s something kind of disarming about Antonoff’s approach. Plenty of artists quietly retire songs after a breakup. He’s choosing to stand on stage and feel all of it in real time, sadness included, and he’s calling that beautiful. Whatever you think of the choice, you can’t accuse the man of being inconsistent.
